Unix Systems Engineer
Description
This position, i.e., Unix Systems Engineer
for the Engineering and Integration group, is for an
Unix engineer and technical expert with respect to servers and application
hosting environments and architectures to support a major IT Services Delivery
Operation for the Department of Energy (DOE). The position reports to the EES
AVP for Engineering. As a Unix systems engineer the
incumbent is responsible for engineering research and design, software and
hardware test and evaluation, testbed to production
project management, and product or services integration into the DOE IT
Infrastructure and DOECOE programs.
Specifically the engineer will develop code, test and implement computer
programs and subsystems utilizing multiple programming languages, as well as
lead subsystem design and participate in system design projects, interface with
customers to define system requirements and priorities, and analyze, resolve
and assist in resolving production problems, and lead or support business
studies and feasibility studies.
The Senior Engineer for Engineering and Integration duties include the
following:

Research,
analyze, test, evaluate new technologies. Participate in strategic planning for
capacity/capability improvements.
Ability to perform detailed system capacity/utilization/performance
analysis. Expertise in network/system
security and encryption technology.
Assist with troubleshooting of advanced systems/UNIX issues

Capable
of multiple simultaneous projects. Must
have excellent verbal and written communication skills Create and maintain
project plans and schedules. Must be able to work well with others and
collaborate with technical teams and management Other tasks as assigned or
requested

Being
an active member of the DOE Technology Engineering and
·
Makes
recommendations, if needed, for approval of major systems installations.
Prepares project plans,
milestone status reports and deliveries/presentations on the
system concepts and architectures.

Develop,
support, document, and transition to production Unix
based systems and solutions.
·
Maintain
professionalism in all aspects of work conduct and client relationships.

Experience/Education

Incumbent
must be a
·
Incumbent
must have excellent verbal and written communications skills to present highly
complex technical material to senior EES and DOE management in a clear and
concise manner.

Incumbent
must have the ability to work individually as well as part of a collaborative
team.
·
Incumbent
must have solid project management experience, i.e., the ability to manage a project
in a timely fashion
from its inception through testing, to production. This includes developing and
reporting status on task management plans and project plans.

Incumbent
must have at least 5 years technical experience in Unix
based systems with regard to engineering, design, integration or implementation
in network based application hosting environments.

Experience
designing, deploying, testing, analyzing and supporting Unix
servers and network based AHE systems to support a wide range of business applications.
